Hello & Welcome to the first of our Interview Series
Here I'll be speaking to the hero's, champions & ambassadors in all things, health, fitness & holistic wellness.
Today I have the pleasure of speaking to Nick & Dan from Performwell Coaching. So let's dive in!
So, What got you into the world health & fitness Nick & Dan?
Dan- 'When I was really young I struggled a lot with being bullied for the way I was shaped, slightly chunky with an abnormally sized bum for a lad, now I see it more as a blessing than a curse. That bullying continued right up until I was 16, between that time I also refused to eat in order to make myself less chunky and "fit in" with the sporty lads at school. This also lead me down the path of watching YouTube videos from guys like Mike Changs Six Pack Shortcuts to help me get the abs everyone desired back then. My knowledge and passion around health and fitness grew every year right up until now where I have a degree in Sports and Exercise science s well as over 5 years of coaching experience under my belt to help other achieve the health and fitness goals they never believed they could reach'
Nick - 'I spent a lot of my time growing up being the skinny kid, always picked last for sports & never getting the attention like the other boys at school. Eventually it kind of just happened when I saw Bear Grylls on TV, I just thought “Wouldn’t it be cool to do what he does” and then from that moment my heart was set on joining the SAS, and so I began training the very next day.'
It's so powerful the judgement of others has on us, and so sad to think how much we're valued based on aesthetics. But these painful experiences often spur us into action & change. I suppose the problem is when it Catalyses harmful change over helpful change. Speaking of motivation, what would you say is your real passion & motivation when it comes to making the most of every day/ week/ month?
Dan - 'I know there are people out there who used to be the most active people in the world, like my grandad, who are now confided to hospital beds & not able to even raise there arms without it being exhausting, so my drive is to do it for my grandparents, and use their remaining strength as my strength.'
Nick - 'I’ve always had ambition within me from a young age, I cannot place why it is that strong within me and maybe not others, but I’ve always felt like I’m not doing enough in life. I can’t say it’s been easy to handle this urge to constantly work, & I’ve had relationship issues in the past as a result, but I can say that I’ve found balance now in life. Largely this is down to realising my vision & really crafting how I see my life. I am all about creating the biggest impact possible and helping move mankind in the right direction. And of course make my own life more comfortable along the way.'
That's so touching Dan, and yes, it's all about trying to find something that light's you up enough to achieve your goals & make ourselves, and the world a better place. What would you say is your best bit of advice to people lacking in motivation to reach their goals, health & fitness or otherwise?
Dan- 'Do you want to look back in 10 years' time and say I really made the most of my life, or regret not just doing the damn work before it gets 10 times harder.'
Nick - 'If you are lacking motivation it’s likely you are missing something in your life right now OR you are lacking self belief of some kind. It’s worth writing down everything you want to achieve in life & then writing where you currently are. The difference between the 2 is the GAP. Now what you want to do is recognise everything you have achieved already, and this can be anything from material success to personality traits you’ve acquired. By focusing on what you’ve GAINED, you can start to build self belief that you can achieve what you want. Next is to revisit these gains daily by focusing everyday on 3 things you’ve gained each day & are grateful for. Then take 5 mins to envision your future self & try to really feel the emotions & life you are living as if you are there now. Bring that to your present moment now and start living in alignment with that future more exciting version of you.'
100%, that's so powerful, time passes so fast and there's alot to be said about the 'Carpe Diem' way of life as opposed to putting things off. Techniques like this can really help make our goals more achievable if broken down, and if we're coming from a place of positivity about ourself. Now, I’ve had the pleasure of working you both for some time now, but what would you say makes Performwell different?
Dan - 'Performwell acts as an umbrella to keep all of the rubbish that is spouted across the media away, whilst helping people understand that reaching your goals is not complicated, you simply need a plan and guidance structured to you and you will get there.'
Nick - 'We are different to the usual fitness podcasts out there because we recognise that change doesn’t happen from going to the gym or changing your diet; yes those things help, but real change starts from the inside. We help people realise they are capable of achieving great things in their life and starting with the discipline of changing their health for the better can improve their life in ALL areas. We feel entrepreneurs are the backbone of driving our world forward and these people are often the ones that leave their health behind the most. We want to support, nurture & help those that drive change'
I agree, it's got to be a holistic approach vs just strict diets or killing yourself in the gym daily. I think some people get put off by the stereotypical shouty coach, who would you say your services are for?
Dan -'Our services are for career driven individuals who lack time and energy to reach their physical and mental goals, we take all the heavy lifting away and let them focus on the areas that truly matter.'
Nick - 'Our services are for the busy working professional & business owners out there that are trying to drive change in this world. They already have the ability to get stuff done, but we simply want to 10x their energy and give them the fuel to drive that impact they wish to see on this world. We know by changing health for the better we can actually radically improve everything from career & wealth generation to relationships & spiritual development. Hence why we may not shout, but we are sometimes tough in the way we deliver our love as coaches.'
Finally, I know you love these.. what’s a weird / fun fact that no one might have heard before?
Dan - 'There is no specific time zone at the south pole'
Nick - 'Every 11 years our body has completely regenerated into a new being. Therefore you are no longer the same person you were in the past and so you should not be stuck there. You can change in this present moment regardless.'
I did not know that, & everyday I know you both i'm certainly expanding my pub quiz knowledge!
Thank you both for your time!
